This past week I packed up my bags and headed home for Thanksgiving. I thought this was the perfect opportunity to have my mom show me a recipe she grew up with, Ambrosia Salad with sour cream. She had memories of eating this as a child and my eyes were wide with fascination as she walked me through the typical contents of an Ambrosia Salad.

As we started talking about ambrosia salad it was clear that there were many different variations of the iconic recipe. Some people call it fruit salad with sour cream and marshmallows and some people use cool whip in it. However, my mom remembers it with one key ingredient that really surprised me, sour cream.
